After launching [wishlistpalace.com] at the end of last month I had some things to learn about how to secure my VPS that is running that site so I did some minimal research which I wrote up in How to Protect Your New VPS.

I plan to do monthly dev log updates on what I learn and what has shipped and will post them in the logs section of this site. I’ll also send out an email with these updates.

There are now 5 users not including myself on that website. I expect that I won’t get much more usage until closer to christmas because I think the site will be most useful for christmas lists and organization of gift giving among families. But I would like to increase the number of users of that site. I found how a few things about how to get indexed on google and even saw a few search hits for this site and the wishlist palace. You can see that at SEO and LLM Discoverability for Phoenix Web Apps. The phoenix specific parts about regarding which data you want to serve to robots. I also learned about what to do to get part of the LLMs crawls so that it might even be possible for your site to come up in conversation with an LLM.

I also wrote about what I learned for doing some CI/CD for a phoenix app with github actions. I feel for the engineering folk at github these days given the struggles with uptime and interruptions they have been facing. All and all if I ever move to another platform I’ll always measure against what is possible with github. Truth be told, I’m not planning to leave. You can see the actions that deploy the new versions of wishlist palace to the server at Github Actions for Phoenix App Deployment to Hetzner.

Games I first heard about Panzer Dragoon when Orta came out for the xbox but never played any in the series until this month when I played panzer dragoon remake. It is a very cool on-rails shooter with art inspired by the french artist Moebius (or maybe concept art was directly made by him) The art is so good! The game play made me want to develop a new on-rails game like this.
